Since coming onto the NHRA scene in 2000, Cagnazzi Racing has built a strong reputation for itself as a competitive, winning team. This year, young Erica Enders has returned to the team, to campaign a Chevy Cobalt in the Pro Stock series. She has already become the first woman to qualify No. 1 at a national event, and to run in the final round. Currently sitting 5th in points, Erica also hopes to do well in the Countdown to the Chamionship (the equivalent of Pro Stock playoffs), hoping to become the first female winner at a national event, and perhaps even the first ever female Champion.
“When you’re fine tuning a Pro Stock car to speeds over 210 mph in 6.5 seconds, moving weight around the car is key. And the Lithium Pro battery at 6.5lbs allows us to do that along with the power to start this hotrod round by round.”
A competitive Pro Stock car requires several things: a good car, a good driver, and a good team. To help out with the car side of it, Lithium Pros built an L925-16A for Erica to use in her pursuits this season. The 16v, 6 pound battery is the perfect choice for a total-loss (no alternator) drag car where cranking performance and capacity are critical, yet light weight is also important. Happily, the L925-16A accomplishes all of those things with the added benefit of recharging quickly between heats.
BITW Technologies Eco Racer
It is no surprise that hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) have become so common in recent years. With gas prices seemingly always on the rise and the ever-increasing efficiency of electric motors and batteries, the hybrid has gone from somet
hing of a pipe dream to a tangible alternative. Automotive manufacturers have been perfecting the technology for over a decade, and now a person of sufficient time, knowledge, and motivation can buy the parts and assemble their own.
Two of the aforementioned people are George Voll and Dan Boyd, a couple of long-time friends from Indiana with tons of mechanical experience. George manages a hardware store, and has also been a diesel enthusiast for 20 years. Dan is an engineer with racing pit crew experience. In their spare time, they and their team at BITW Technologies build and race eco-friendly hybrid cars. The passion they have for what they do was apparent when we first met BITW at SEMA in 2009.
The current ride is called the Vincitore 1000, a 2000 Chevy Metro sedan. This car was a logical choice, due to it’s small size and light weight. The car is fitted with a 3-cylinder, 950CC turbocharged diesel engine that helps the car achieve over 100MPG in real-world driving, on biofuel no less. The car was originally designed for the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize, but was beaten out by a small margin.
For starting the diesel engine and running the car’s basic systems, BITW turned to us. The C680 is the 12v “workhorse” of our product line, and a perfect choice for basic electrical needs in a daily driver. Here is what Mr. Boyd had to say after running the battery for several months:
“The battery looked like an excellent fit for us as we were entered in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize. We were looking for ways to reduce weight in the vehicle and going from a 35 pound lead acid battery to a 5 pound lithium battery made sense. While we did not win the X Prize, we did get 107 MPG at the Green Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International, winning the Diesel class. Reducing weight helps to increase MPG, which is something many people are concerned with as the fuel prices seem to continue to rise. We have found the battery to be trouble free and easy to work with.”
While the X Prize may have gone to a team with more time and funding, the BITW car is still an impressive feat of engineering, and 107 MPG is extremely respectable. In full trim, the Vincitore should be capable of going 1000 miles on a single tank of biodiesel! We are proud to have our battery such in a cutting edge car, and wish the team the best of luck in their further pursuits.

Rick Ellison is a long-time racer from North Carolina. He runs a 2009 Dodge Challenger in a variety of classes, from NMCA to the Late Model Hemi Shootout. He has had great success with the supercharged Challenger, and it performs well, running down into the 9s in the quarter mile.
The Challenger is powered by an Arrington 392 engine, fed by a Procharger F1C and mated to a Paramount Performance Products NAG1 transmission. Of course, the car is also running a lightweight Lithium Pros battery. The C680 provides solid cranking performance, even on a 900hp engine, and could very easily be used in a daily driver for improved performance and economy. At only 5 pounds, the weight savings are tremendous!
We wish Rick the best of luck in his continuing racing career.
Update, 9-6-2011:
Rick won the Late Model Hemi Shootout at Mopar Thunder in Bristol this weekend! Congrats on the win, Rick!

As of August 2011, Kyle is 2nd in points in the MLRA, 6th in SLMR, and12th in NCRA.
Kyle runs our L925-16A in his Late Model. We wish him the best of luck with the rest of his season.
Sponsored Racer: Nitrous Express Diesel Dragster
The team at Nitrous Express is already well-known for their great products and service in the racing world, but they also participate. Their latest is a 24-foot purpose-built dragster, powered by an upgraded 7.0L Duramax diesel engine and fed
by not only two massive turbochargers, but also their dual-stage diesel nitrous system. This car made 1154 hp and 1682 ft-lbs on its first and only full nitrous pull at 26 pounds of boost. Once the setup is dialed in, they hope to run 45 pounds!
Naturally, such a massive diesel engine requires a lot of power to turn over. That’s where Lithium Pros comes in. NX uses one of our best 12V batteries, the L3400. While it weighs an unbelievably light 15.5 pounds, it cranks the car with ease. You can see it in the picture above the rear tires, right in front of the parachute.
Here is a video of the car starting:

Mike Wood of Nitrous Express had nothing but great things to say about our battery:
“The new battery kicked butt! I didn’t know how much I appreciated it until I put a standard 78 series battery in the car. It did start the car but nothing like the LP unit. The difference was night and day. I’m a believer in your technology.”
Though the team has been battling some mechanical teething pains this year, they hope to be around a 4.80 ET in the 1/8th mile and somewhere below 7.50 in the 1/4 soon.
You can see more pictures of the Dragster on NX’s website.
As of Sept. 10th, the Nitrous Express team are now the NHRDA World Champions! They took the win in Topeka, despite rain and several equipment problems. Now, their plan is to run the remaining NADM events and then visit the Texas Mile in late October to make an attempt at a land speed record–the dragster is geared out to hit 275mph!
